We are renovating our Edwardian home, which was last renovated in the 80s.

A chipboard floor is nailed to 2×2 battens on an uninsulated concrete slab. Is it better in your opinion to leave as is to use the concrete as thermal mass or insulate on top of the concrete? The concrete presently doesn’t feel cold but the finish is pretty undulated.

What process would you recommend to even out an existing chipboard floor without having to take it all up and start again?
